Zachary puts offense, defense in gear in rolling

over Madison Prep

ZACHARY — A week after Zachary High suffered its first loss of the season, the Broncos turned in a near flawless performance in every phase Friday night against Madison Prep.

It all added up to a 51-0 win for Zachary in a game where the coaches agreed to a running clock in the second half.

Offensively, the Broncos (2-1) scored on six of eight possessions that weren’t stopped by the end of a half, and they never punted. On defense, Zachary forced three turnovers, and held MPA (0-3) to 31 yards of offense.

Special teams did their part blocking a punt by Keyonne Hawkins, and tackling him for a loss on another punt attempt.

“I’m really proud with the angles our defense played with,” Zachary coach David Brewerton said. “They were running downhill with those angles, and in a bad mood when they got there. That’s what we challenged them to do all week.”
